Boards

Independent board member and chairman in energy and infrastructure.

I sit on boards as an independent director or chairman in Spain, Portugal, the rest of Europe and the UK. I chair two boards today, Capflex Energía, which develops and sells battery storage projects in Spain, and Supercubo. I co-founded Cable Energía, which Shell bought in 2022 and Acciona in 2025. The fit is sharpest in fund-owned midcaps in energy that are growing, restructuring or preparing a sale.

What I bring to a board

Operator judgement

I have built, run and sold a company in this asset class, and stayed through the integration with the buyer. I know what happens in the asset after the board meeting ends.

Exit discipline

Cable Energía went through due diligence by an energy group, an oil major and an infrastructure buyer. I know what a buyer checks and how early it has to be ready.

Grid and storage fluency

Grid access, permitting, construction and how a battery gets financed in Spain, from the chair of a 500 MW storage developer and as a columnist on storage and the power market.

The long view

A fund holds an asset for about six years; the asset lives for more than twenty. Someone in the boardroom has to own that gap.

Situations where it fits

Growth

A platform that has to industrialise: governance, reporting and an operating team that can carry the next size.

Exit-readiness

Getting a company in shape to be bought. Due diligence is won years before the offer letter arrives.

Restructuring

When the model and the asset have drifted apart and someone in the room has to know what is really happening on site.

M&A

Support on the buy side and the sell side in energy and infrastructure, founder to founder and board to board.

Asset classes

Where and how

Spain and Portugal in person; the rest of Europe and the UK in person or remotely. Board work in Spanish or English. Conflicts are declared before the first meeting: I chair Capflex Energía, a battery storage developer in Spain.
